“Justice” Breakthrough superstar indie duo rocks the Garden in NYC!!!

March 25, 2008

justice-in-concert.jpgjustice.pngJustice is an impressive “Electro” duo who is on the forefront of creativity and innovation in the indie genre.

Their sound takes me on a journey through the late 80′s and early 90′s breaking through “the now” at head and body springing speed.

The dynamic duo has been on the Jimmy Kimmel show in NY as well as selling out at Terminal 5 in NY, and most recently packing Madison Square Garden on March 11th.

These artists have a huge underground following of fans who can’t get enough of what these cats are pushing out. The artists are from Paris, France and have been touring the world creating highly engaging and electric shows that are leaving their fans with a truly memorable experience.

Justice is hard to categorize, because they make you dance and can be called dance, but are a combination of electronic, funk, disco, techno and rock, as well as having been influences from other genres that contribute to their intriguing sound.

The bottom line is these cats are on the forefront of the music “Mash Up” culture creating something new that has the addicting feel. There is a daft punk feel to some of the stuff they are pushing out, but are definitely unique onto themselves.

Their video’s are some of the most creative and compelling pieces that I have seen, and it is clear that they are collaborating on more than cutting edge music with the help of Ed Banger and his team.

I have always been a fan of the late 80′s and early 90′s logo style, and to see the use of it’s style in DVNO clearly illustrated more then the words that are being spelled out in their visual masterpiece.

The constant movement, flow and interweaving perspectives, take you into a trance like state that moves you past conventional music and art, and into a new paradigm of indie or dance music.

Check out the awesomely creative video’s from Justice…

Tuesday Night Open 9 Ball Tournament
Jerry Tarantola “Grinds” out his first Raxx Tuesday night Open victory!

Raxx Pool Room, Hempstead, NY.
February 26th, 08
By Tournament Staff

The word is definetly getting out about the weekly Tuesday night Open tournament at Raxx Pool Room in West Hempstead as this weeks list of players included such names as Sean “Alaska” Morgan, Oscar Bonilla, Bobby Blackmore, Anthony Pizaro, Jerry Tarantola, and even recent second place finisher in the Turning Stone Classic X, Jeremy “The Giant Killer” Sossei made the trip from Connecticut to play in this week’s open event.

In the end however it was not “The Giant Killer” Jeremy Sossei that would walk away with the tournament victory. Instead it would be NYCGrind’s own Jerry Tarantola who would slay the dragon Sossei 4-2 to move into the finals against Pete Tascarella Sr. Pete Sr. defeated Jerry T, earlier in the tournament to take the hotseat by a score of 5-2 but Jerry would not settle for second place as he would grind out a 7-4 victory against Pete Sr. to win his first Tuesday night open event. Congratulations! and Nice shooting! Continue reading “Weekly Local “New York” Tournament Action Breakdown” »

The event began with 66 of the best players in the Northeast. There were many great matches, but the local players were to be sure to have their presence felt.

ginky-bending-the-break.jpg

There were many tough battles from big names in pool, but when it the dust settled it was NY’s own Frankie Hernandez who took down the title and the $1,400 prize. Continue reading “Frankie Hernandez defeats “Godzilla” in the Predator Tour 3rd Stop” »

Predator Tour Breakdown for the #3rd Pro-Am Stop at Master Billiards, NY

March 3, 2008

Predator Tour Breakdown for the #3rd Pro-Am Stop at Master Billiards, NYOut of 66 players who came out to play in the new Pro Am Tour, presented by Tony Robles and Predator… There are only 4 players remaining. The Final 4 players are…”The Silent Assasin” Tony RoblesvsFrankie HernandezBoth players are on the winners side. The winner will earn a spot in the finals. The loser of that already earned/locked up a 3rd place finish. The loser will have a chance to battle back in the “One Loss Side” or the west side of the Tournament Bracket”. alaska-vs-spain.jpg   Already fighting in the One Loss Bracket are a few battle torn warriors.”Godzilla” Shin Young ParkvsManny ChauManny just beat “Spain” Mark Videl 7-2 to earn a chance to play Shin park for a minimum 3rd place finish. The victory also gave life to be able to continue to grind through the “One Loss Side”.”Godzilla” Shin Young Park just defeated “Ginky” by the score of 7-1. Shin Young Park is playing flawless pool, and it has been impressive to watch this play first hand.5.”Ginky” George Sansouci $2156. “Spain”Marc Vidal 1507. Holden Chin $1508.Eddie Vasquez $1509. “Alaska” Sean Morgan$10010. Bobby Blackmore$10011.Yesid Garibello$10012.Oscar Laboy $10013.Mike Wong $7514. Albert Lopez $7515. Jorge Rodriguea $7516. Guran /sgernab $75Tony Roblesvs.Manny Chau”Behind the Bracket”Tony missed an eight ball to go up 3-2. This was an eight ball that he had to strike hard as he attempted to come around 4 rails for position on the nine ball. He bobbled the eight in the pocket allowing Manny to gain control of the set.Manny maintains control of the set as he goes up 5-3. Tony continues to remain unphased by a few bad rolls and a few missed shots, as he grinds back to 5 games a piece.7-5 Manny.Down 7-5. Tony Breaks and had no shot on the 2 ball. He tries to barely skim it to play a safe, but misses the side of the object ball. This gave Manny ball in hand. With ball in hand on the two ball… Manny puts together a clinic on position play, almost as if his cue ball was on a string.Tony wins the next game by making a spectacular run out and closes the gap to 8-6.In the next rack Tony gets out of another impressive rack allowing him to fight his way back into the match… 8-7. Tony battles back to hill hill.In the final game… Tony breaks his best break of the set… stops the cue in the middle of the table as the balls explode. While the break was a cannonball break… Tony was unlucky that he did not drop a ball, leaving Manny a seemingly easy run-out rack (a rack in which the patterns are basic for the most part).Manny hits the 3 ball too hard and winds up on a long straight shot on the four ball. Manny draws the four back and has a good angle on the 5 ball, which will give him easy position on the 6 ball. Manny hits the shot a little to hard, and does not stoke the ball with enough inside english and lands almost on top of the 6 ball.Manny jacks up and fires in the 6 ball, but in a shocking turn of events scratches in the side pocket, giving Tony ball and hand and the set.In the end… “The Silent Assasin” was able to make an improbable comeback.  ginky-watching-holden-break.jpg The victory earns Tony Robles the opportunity to progress on the winners side of the double elimination Tournament Chart. His next opponent would prove to be a challenge with the on of the top NY players “Frankie Hernandez”. In the match at the current time of 5:05, after being down… Tony is battling back to 6-5. This is a race to nine games… so Tony needs to win 4 games to Frankies 3 games. Before Frankie had the chance to play Tony (which match is still in progress) he had to run through “Godzilla” who has been a dominant force in NY throughout the entire 2007 year. Here is a break down of the other Winner Side Match that took place at 12:00pm.”Behind the Bracket”Frankie was up 4-1 early on, as he came with explosive firepower and a few good rolls. As the set unfolds… both players are playing great and displaying an abundance of offensive firepower to the fans delight.Shin Park grinds back to 6-5 and is closing the gap slowly.Shin Park ties up the score at 6-6.Frankie goes up 7-6.Frankie makes the three ball, but hits it too soft, as he leaves himself no shot.  manny-jumping-tr-watching.jpg  He elects to play a safe leaving “Godzilla” no shot. Park plays a safe back, but leaves him a piece of the four ball to hit. Frankie plays a safe back and leaves Park behind the 9 ball. Park now is in a position to jump the 4 ball, since if he makes the four ball… the 5 ball is hanging in the corner pocket which will leave his an easy shot for the out. Before Park gets down to shoot… he calls a time out to re-compose himself and come back with a clear head. Frankie is a dominant force and his presence is tought for a weak minded opponent. He has a specific NY swagger that likens Derek Jeter or Alex Rodrigez. The break turned out to be too little to late on this day, as the mighty “Godzilla” Shin Young Park was no match for the the powerhouse game of Frankie Hernandez on this day.The Final Score when the dust settled was 9-6.Frankie Hernandez has a deadly blend of an aggressive fire power, enormous break on top of his “Never Give Up” attitude. Frankie proves to continue to prove to be a dominant player in the NY pool landscape, and surely will for some time to come!!!   ginky-shooting-sticks.jpg
