Greg Ackerman Earns First Tri-State Victory at Castle Billiards

Posted on by Alison Fischer

In the March 9, 2013 stop of the Tri-State Tour, held at Castle Billiards, Greg Ackerman of Rockaway, NJ would storm through to go undefeated in this event. Ackerman recently took second at the Clifton Billiards stop on February 17, but would one-up that finish and claim his first Tri-State win at Castle. While Ackerman started out as a C+ in this 64-player event, his win earned him an upgrade to B status.

Moving through to the final four of the winner’s bracket, Greg Ackerman defeated Ben Castaneros 6-3…while in the other final four match, Yomaylin “Smiley” Feliz defeated Bryan Jeziorski 7-3. Ackerman and Feliz were then matched up in the hot seat match, with Ackerman winning 7-4.

Also having an impressive day at Castle was Ambi Estevez, who made a strong comeback after having lost his first match of the event. He then went on to win seven straight matches and finish tied for 5th/6th place with John Trobiano, after ending his run with a 6-4 loss to Ben Castaneros.

Castanaros would then move on to the quarterfinal against Castle Billiards owner John Trobiano, but Trobiano would eliminate him at 7-2. Trobiano was then into the semifinal match against Yomaylin Feliz, who would come out ahead in the final game at 7-6.

Feliz and Ackerman were on course for a replay of the hot seat match, but as the hour had reached 4:30am, with daylight savings time making it 5:30, Yomaylin Feliz and Greg Ackerman decided to call it quits and split the first and second place prizes, while Ackerman earned the win as the player in the hot seat. Congrats to Greg Ackerman on his win, and to Yomaylin Feliz for her first top finish after being moved from the C+ to B class.

Payout:
1st: Greg Ackerman  – $1,000, 2nd: Yomaylin Feliz – $640 (Split to $820)
