After taking a week’s hiatus due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Tri-State Tour got back to the grind at Castle Billiards on Saturday, November 11. A strong turnout of forty-three players headed out to Castle, one of the area’s most popular pool spots, located in East Rutherford, NJ.
While many regular faces on the tour were seen at this event, it was a tour newcomer named Emit Yolcu who stormed the winner’s bracket at Castle and go to the hot seat. Yolcu had few roadblocks on his way to victory in this event, winning the final four match against Dennis Kennedy 7-4, and moving on to the hot seat match to face his toughest challenge up until that point, going hill-hill against house player Scott Simonetti 10-8.
However, Guy Iannuzzi was the most impressive force to come through on the one-loss side. After having lost early in the winner’s bracket to Raphael Dabreo, Iannuzzi went on to win eight matches on the one-loss side, including the quarterfinal against Robert Veit 7-6 and the semifinal against Scott Simonett 7-1, to put him into the final match against undefeated Emit Yolcu.
In the finals, Yolcu and Iannuzzi had a hard-fought back and forth battle…but Iannuzzi would come out on top in an extended race to ten, with the score ending at 10-8. Congratulations to Guy Iannuzzi on a strong comeback through the one-loss side, and to Emit Yolcu for a very strong showing in his first Tri-State appearance.
