Jayson Shaw Wins 2nd Predator Tour 10-Ball & Roberto Mendoza Captures Am 9-Ball at Mr. Cue Billiards

Posted on by Jerry T

On the weekend of December 1-2, The Predator Pro-Am Tour was hosted by Mr. Cue Billiards and owner Scott Murphy, who also plays on the tour. This event would be the 15th stop of the Predator Tour’s 16-event season, and the regular-season stop of the year. The tour would then cap off the season with their finale at Raxx Pool Room on December 8-9.

Tony Robles and tournament director William Finnegan welcomed the amateur players who came out to compete over the course of the weekend, which included D+ through A+ level players.  The final eight players (4 on winner’s side & 4 on one-loss side) would make it back to the second day, where they would play alongside the Predator Tour’s Open/Pro 10-Ball division.

All the players at this tour stop were looking to improve upon their overall 2012 standings in their respective divisions, as this would be their last chance to edge out their competitors vying for the Player of the Year honors.

In this end-of-season event, Adrian Daniel (C+) went through the winner’s side of the bracket to make it to the hot seat. Adrian’s path to the finals included wins over Billy Meyer C+ (7-6), Mike Boyles C+ (7-5), Tony Ignomirello C (7-5), Andrew Cleary C+ (7-3), Rich Turner C (7-6) and Roberto Mendoza A+ (9-7).

Roberto Mendoza would then be paired up against the winner of the one-loss bracket, who would be Ed Cuhane. Culhane would not be able to get past Mendoza in this match, with Mendoza winning 7-3 in the semifinal.

Adrian Daniel waited in the hot seat for the victor of the semifinal, and as it would turn out, he would have a rematch in the final against Roberto Mendoza. In the extended-format final match, Mendoza would make a statement by defeating Adrian Daniel 11-7 in the finals. Congratulations to Roberto on his comeback victory, making for his second win on the Predator Tour, with the first being at Carom Cafe in October.

On Sunday, December 2, the Open/Pro 10-Ball event brought out a strong performance from Tony Robles, who defeated Bikram Dee 7-1, Earl Strickland 7-6, Oscar Bonilla 7-3, and Jayson Shaw 7-3.

Earl Strickland played strong to grind through the one loss side with wins over Rich Lang 7-4, Jeremy Sossei 7-0, Scott Murphy 7-6, and Oscar Bonilla 7-4. But, Jayson Shaw would eventually stop Earl Strickland’s run by way of a 7-4 winning score line.

Shaw would then find himself in his second consecutive final of the Predator Tour, although this time coming from the one-loss side. Taking on hot seat occupant Tony Robles, Jayson Shaw would match up with “The Silent Assassin” in an extended race to 11. Robles would need nine games to win the match, while Shaw would need eleven, but would have to reach the nine mark before Robles.

Jayson Shaw would close out a win in finals after only allowing Robles to win five games, with the final score ending at 11-5. Congratulations to Jayson on a strong comeback to win the final stop of the season
