Jimmy Rivera Forges a Comeback to Win His First Tri-State at Cue Bar

Posted on by Alison Fischer

To follow up his fourth place finish at the Tri-State Tour’s Clifton Billiards stop on February 17, Jimmy Rivera trumped it one week later, and snapped off his first Tri-State win at Cue Bar in Bayside, Queens, NY…outlasting the thirty-seven other competitors who were out to capture the top prize.

Jimmy Rivera started out strong from the start of the event, defeating Dave Shlemperis 7-4 and Rhio Anne Flores 7-5, but was then sent to the one-loss side after being defeated by Stewart Warnock, 7-1. But, Rivera got back on track and would win the next six matches to make it to the final match. His run included wins against Darren DeFelippis 7-2, Rhio Anne Flores 7-5, and redeemed himself against Stewart Warnock, winning 7-2 to go on to the quarterfinal.

Meeting Rivera in the quarterfinal was Ramon Feliciano, who had previously defeated Jimmy Martinez, 6-1. Rivera continued his streak and defeated Feliciano at 7-5 to go on to the semifinal. The player waiting to go up against Rivera in the semifinal was Yakov Bekkelman, who had previously lost to Koka Davladze in the match for the hot seat at 9-7. In the semifinal, Rivera would win by a three-game margin at 8-5 to move on to the finals.

Jimmy Rivera was then matched against the tour’s #1-ranked ‘A’ class player in the final, Koka Davladze. Rivera stayed in control throughout the final match, while Davladze wasn’t able to capitalize on a couple opportunities… and the match ended with a 9-5 win for Rivera. Congratulations to Jimmy Rivera on his first Tri-State win, along with the other top finishers!
