The weekend of January 14-15 would turn out to be one marked with ‘Battles of the Sexes’ on two of Northeast regional pool tours. While on the Predator Tour, Jennifer Barretta stormed through undefeated to the finals, The Mezz Pro-Am Tour Championship at Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, PA featured its own leading lady.

In the Mezz Tour’s finale event, Pam Cimarelli (known as one of the toughest female competitors in the region) took the upper hand against the guys in this open event.  Pam went through the winner’s bracket to the hot seat match after defeating Rob Humski 8-0, Desiree Rivera 8-0, Derek Schwager 8-3, Joey Testa 8-7, and Rob Hart 8-4.

Meeting up with Pam Cimarelli in the hot seat match was Mezz Tour points leader Josh Brothers, who also had a strong run with wins over Mark Stewart 8-4, Chris Riley 8-2, Matt Krah 8-6, and Eddie Abraham 8-3. This set Josh up to take on Pam Cimarelli for the hot seat… and while the two stayed closely-tied throughout the match, Pam pulled away to win 8-5.

Josh Brothers kept on running after his loss to Pam, and went on to defeat Matt Krah in the semifinal match easily at 7-3. Josh then moved on to a rematch in the finals against Pam Cimarelli, playing a true double-elimination title match, where he would have to beat Pam two sets.

In the first set of that final match, both Pam and Josh played hard but Josh Brothers came out the winner at 8-5… and in the second set, Josh won without too much resistance, with the final score ending at 8-2.

This win capped off a great year for Josh Brothers, who has become the 2011 Mezz Tour Champion for both this finale and the entire season. And while she came up short in the final match, Pam Cimarelli still made a huge statement in this event, placing higher than any other female has in the Mezz Open Tour.  Congrats to both Josh and Pam for their great performances!
