On Sunday, December 30, The Tri-State Tour held their final event of 2012 in NYC at Bayside, Queens pool room, Cue Bar. This $1,000-added event drew in thirty-six players hoping to cash in on the top prize before the year end.
In this event, Long Island player Justin Muller would successfully bounce back after a loss in the hot seat match to capture a win at Cue Bar. Leading up to the hot seat match, Muller won his first four matches versus Geovani Hosang 7- 6, Brian Russell 7-5, Koka Davladze 7-5, and Carl Yusuf Khan 7-2.
In the hot seat, Justin Muller was matched up against Rene Villalobos, who had previously defeated Rich Lang (6-4) in the final four. Villalobos remained tough in the hot seat match, defeating Muller with a decisive 8-3 score.
One of the standout players in the one-loss side of this tournament would be Stewart Warnock, who had a long grind through the one-loss side to land in the semifinal match against Muller. Along his path, Warnock knocked out Koka Davladze 7-4, Beau Baer 7-4, Carl Yusuf Khan 7-2, and Ambi Estevez in the quarterfinal 9-8 on the one-loss side. However, Warnock was unable to get past Justin Muller in the semifinal, which ended in a 7-4 win for Muller. Stewart Warnock finished with a hard-earned 3rd place, with an 8/2 win/loss record.
In the final match, Justin Muller was matched up with Rene Villalobos for the second time on this day. Although Villalobos started out with an early lead in this match, Muller did not give in…winning the last five racks of their match to finish with a 10-7 win. Congratulations to both Justin and Rene for their great performances at this event, along with all of the top-finishing players.
