Out of a field of forty-seven players who came together to battle at the February 17 Tri-State Tour stop at Clifton Billiards, Kyle Bubet made an undefeated run through six matches to claim the hot seat. On his path, Bubet defeating Jaydev Zaveri 6-1, A-Karim Moumen 6-4, Anthony Mattia 6-5, Greg Ackerman 6-2, and had a close hot seat match against Chris Kelly, winning 7-6.
After having lost his match in the final four of the winner’s bracket to Bubet, Greg Ackerman bounced back to defeat Tony Ignomirello 6-3. Ackerman was then met by the top player to come through the one-loss side, Jimmy Rivera in the quarterfinal. Rivera defeated Steve Mocarski 7-4 to make it to the quarterfinal, but Ackerman would end his run with a 7-5 quarterfinal win. Rivera had an impressive finish for the day, as he went on to win six matches on the one-loss side after losing his very first match of the day.
Greg Ackerman would then be matched up against Chris Kelly in the semifinal. Due to the late hour, the two players decided to play a single ‘sudden death’ style game to determine who would move on to the final, and split the 2nd & 3rd place winnings. Ackerman would be the winner of that game, but moving on to the final match, he and Kyle Bubet also opted to quit for the night since it had become so late. As Bubet had been the undefeated player, he earned the top spot as the winner. Congratulations to Kyle Bubet and all of the top finishers at Clifton Billiards!
