NYC Grind on the Road: Coverage of the 5K Added Carom Room Classic with Live Streaming from PoolActionTV

Posted on by Alison Fischer

For players who have traveled to pool rooms and tournaments in the Midwest, it is widely known that the 7′ bar box tables are the popular platform in the region. However, a smaller table does not mean smaller action, and the Carom Room in Beloit, WI is certainly proving this to be the case.

This weekend (August 23-25) the Carom Room Classic has drawn a field of many of the top players from the Midwest and beyond to compete in a $5,000-added 10-ball tournament. The event has been limited to a field of 80 players and required preregistration, with the spots being filled up nearly two weeks prior.

This much-anticipated event has created a lot of buzz for players in the region, and a number of players have commented that this is the biggest tournament to happen in the state in many years. No fees are being taken out of the $100 player entry, making for a strong payout of $4,240 for 1st place and a great draw for area talent.

Some of the top names slated to be competing in the event include former US Open 9-Ball Jeremy Jones, 2013 US Bar Table 8-Ball Champion Jason Klatt 2012 US Bar Table 9-Ball Champion Stan Tourangeau, Chris Bartram, two-time 2013 Midwest 9-Ball Tour stop winner Alex Olinger, Ike Runnels, Jesse Bowman, former touring pro Jeff Carter, Danny Smith, 2013 Southern Classic Banks runner-up Skyler Woodward, Rory Hendrickson, Shane Winters, 2013 Junior National 14 & Under Champion Sergio Rivas, and 2013 Junior National 18 & Under runner-up Tyler Styer, among many others.

While the event will get underway on Friday evening (August 23), a $200-entry warm-up tournament is additionally being held that night. Limited to the first 16 players, the event will pay out $2,100 for 1st and $1,100 for 2nd.

Texas-based live stream provider Ray Hansen (aka BigTruck) of PoolActionTV.com has made the trek to Beloit (located in southeast Wisconsin near the border of Illinois) to live stream feature matches of the entire event. “I had heard a lot of great things about the Carom Room, and the format for the event couldn’t be better,” said Ray.

The streaming will be based on a daily PPV rate, and PoolActionTV has offered NYC Grind readers a 25% discount for the stream by entering the code ‘nycgrind‘ while checking out.

I will also be on site for the event to report results and get in on some match commentary. It’s going to be a great weekend for pool in Beloit!
