At the end of Day 2 of the 2nd Annual Steinway Classic 10-ball, the final player left standing undefeated would be none other than current US Open 9-Ball Champion & former US Open 10-Ball Champion Shane Van Boening. In the match for the hot seat on Monday, August 26, Van Boening took out Jayson Shaw by a landslide 9-2 win.
Prior to the match for the hot seat, Van Boening had defeated Shaun Wilkie (9-3) while Shaw defeated Earl Strickland (9-6). Wilkie was then knocked out of the tournament by Warren Kiamco, who also had also previously eliminated Darren Appleton (9-5) and Ralph Eckert (9-2).
Meanwhile, Earl Strickland won against Oliver Ortmann, which sent him to the quarterfinal to take on Kiamco. Strickland and Kiamco, who have matched up numerous times in recent months in New York area tournaments, had a closely-fought match that went to double-hill after a break and run from Kiamco. It also looked as if Kiamco would run off with the case game, but he ended up leaving himself hooked in the middle of the rack, and gave Strickland ball in hand for the win at 9-8.
Strickland will next move on to the semifinal to take on Jayson Shaw for the second time in the event. The semifinal will take place at 4:00pm (Eastern) today, Tuesday, August 27, and the final match will be held later this evening at 7:00pm.
Both matches will be races to 15 games, and will be live streamed. Watch it live online at the top of the page, or at www.insidepool.tv.
