The 7th Annual US Amateur Open, sponsored by Ozone Billiards, was held from Oct. 18 – Oct. 21 at the same venue as the Championship Cloth Pro Classic – Emerald Billiards in New Iberia, LA, and ran concurrent with the pro event. The event brought in many of the Southeast’s top amateur talent in to battle at Emerald. Read on for the story on the final results from event producer Dragon Promotions.

Jimmy "Superfly" Majors went undefeated to win the 8-Ball & 9-Ball Open in the 7th year of the events

New Iberia, Louisiana – The 2012 Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open returned in its 7th year and saw it’s first sweep of the Open Divisions. Louisiana’s own Jimmy Majors, nicknamed “Superfly” by Louisiana locals, went undefeated in 11 consecutive matches to win the 8-Ball Open and the 9-ball Pro-Am open. The events took place at Emerald Billiards in New Iberia, Louisiana. The Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open was produced by Dragon Promotions and coincided with The Championship Cloth Pro Classic events. This 7th installment of this amateur extravaganza featured seven total tournaments in 9-Ball and 8-Ball disciplines, with divisions in Open, Women, Seniors, Mixed Doubles and the Open 9-Ball  which allows all players of any level to play. The events were sponsored by Predator, Pool & Billiard Magazine, Aramith Balls, and Emerald Billiards.

Majors played in the Pro Classic 9-Ball event but wasn’t able to post a match win. His luck changed when he entered the bar table events. He went undefeated in the 8-Ball to claim the $1,000 1st place prize. Then he entered the 9-Ball Pro-Am which featured tougher players such as Richie Richeson, Sylver Ochoa, Gary Abood, and more. Again, he went undefeated with wins over Sylver Ochoa and then Abood in the finals to claim another $2300.

On the 8-Ball ladies side, Florida’s Chris Fields came back from the loser’s side and defeated defending champion Ashley Kline in back to back double hill thrillers, 4-3, 3-2.

Congrats also goes out to Mickey Elesterion, winner of the 8-Ball Seniors division of the Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open.

Fields Double Victory Over Ladies: Aguzin Wins Seniors at Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open

Chris Fields won both ladies events, while Joey Aguzin went undefeated to win the 9-Ball Seniors Open in the 7th year of the Ozone Billiards events

New Iberia,Louisiana – The 2012 Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open Ladies Divisions were both won by Florida’s Chris Fields. The Seniors 9-Ball Open was won by Joey Aguzin. This marked also the first time the ladies and men’s open were both swept by the same two winners in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball disciplines when Jimmy “SuperFly” Majors also swept the Men’s Open. The events took place at Emerald Billiards in New Iberia, Louisiana. The Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open was produced by Dragon Promotions and coincided with The Championship Cloth Pro Classic events. This 7th installment of this amateur extravaganza featured 7 total tournaments in 9-Ball and 8-Ball disciplines, with divisions in Open, Women, Seniors, Mixed Doubles and the Open 9-Ball  which allows all players of any level to play. The events were sponsored by Predator, Pool & Billiard Magazine, Aramith Balls, and Emerald Billiards.

Fields’ long trek from Florida didn’t go unrewarded. She started the event on the 8-Ball ladies side, where she came back from the loser’s side and defeated defending champion Ashley Kline in back to back double hill thrillers, 4-3, 3-2.  She then entered the 9-Ball ladies event and again defeated Kline to go undefeated this time in the finals. She then entered the Mixed Doubles with her partner Hunter Lombardo. They went undefeated but were defeated twice in the finals by Brittany Bordeaux and Evan Lundy of Michigan.

50+ and up Joey Aguzin went undefeated to win the 9-Ball Seniors division. The 8-Ball was won earlier in the week by Mickey Elesterion. All the amateurs joined the champions circle with pro winners including Shane Van Boening of South Dakota and Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines.
