Leading into 2014, pool in the Northeast has continued to rise in a variety of areas…and Jack & Jill Q Lounge in Brewster, NY (55 miles north of NYC) has recently been added to the list of venues hosting tournaments. On the weekend of December 14-15, 2013, Jack & Jill’s owner Steve Priest hosted their first-ever 10-Ball Open tournament. The event featured a $100 entry fee, and was open to all levels of players, including pros.
The event’s promoter and an emerging talent in the New York area’s amateur circuit, Yesid Garibello, took the the top prize in this event…rising above one of the region’s prominent veteran names, Earl Herring, in the final. Garibello took center stage on the Predator Pro/Am Tour in 2013, as he earned the title of Empire State 9-Ball Champion in the Amateur 9-Ball division, going undefeated at Raxx Pool Room on Long Island.
In the final match of the 10-Ball Open, Herring had a narrow lead of 6-5, when Garibello strung together the next four straight wins to put the final score at 10-5.
Garibello took home the first prize of $700, while Earl Herring earned $425, and third place finisher was Redgie Cutler, who took $150.
The owners of Jack & Jill, Steve & Marion Priest, are now planning their next 10-Ball Open on February 1-2. As in the first event, this will be a double-elimination, called-shot, and called-safe format tournament…and a player auction will be held. Doors open at 10:00am.
